Birchen Edge and Nelson's Monument

A short moorland loop to the monument raised to Nelson in 1810 and the three gritstone boulders carved with the names of his ships, Victory, Defiance and Royal Soverin (sic).

The route

  1. From the Robin Hood pub cross the road and take the path north beside the wall onto the moor.
  2. Climb onto Birchen Edge and walk along it to the monument and the ships.
  3. Descend by the path at the north end and return along the lower track.
